On Thursday, the New York Times released a report that suggests the Justice Department’s probe on the origins of the Russia investigation, led by John Durham, is said to have shifted to a criminal probe.

Later in the evening, Ed Henry of Fox News said two sources familiar with Durham’s investigation confirmed the report by The New York Times, and that it has now moved to a criminal inquiry, where Durham will now have subpoena power and a grand jury to help get to the roots of the Russia probe.

The New York Times, however, put an odd spin on their report when they added, “The move is likely to open the attorney general to accusations that he is trying to deliver a political victory for President Trump.”

House committee chairmen Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff released a joint statement after learning that Durham’s investigation most likely shifted to a criminal inquiry.

“These reports, if true, raise profound new concerns that the Department of Justice under AG Barr has lost its independence and become a vehicle for President Trump’s political revenge,” Schiff and Nadler said in their statement that was posted on Twitter.

“If the Department of Justice may be used as a tool of political retribution, or to help the President with a political narrative for the next election, the rule of law will suffer new and irreparable damage,” they declared. See Below
