On February 24th, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took a walking tour of San Francisco’s Chinatown as part of an effort to calm fears around the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Pelosi addressed concerns about tourism and reassured the public that the risk of contracting the coronavirus remains low in the U.S., adding that she thinks the fear is “unwarranted in light of the precautions that are being taken here in the United States,” as reported by KQED.

On that same morning, the World Health Organization had said that it won’t label the outbreak a global pandemic just yet.

Pelosi said she visited Chinatown after hearing that businesses were suffering from decreased tourism because of fears over the virus. On her tour, she had stopped by popular Chinatown tourist spots, including the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory.

“You should come to Chinatown,” Speaker Pelosi said. “Here we are. We’re again careful, safe, and come join us. Precautions have been taken by our city, we know that there’s concern about tourism, traveling all throughout the world, but we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come.”

On Wednesday, Pelosi was accused on social media of deleting a video on her Twitter account of herself in Chinatown from that day in February. Continued Below

Trump 2020 campaign manager, Brad Parscale, took to Twitter Wednesday to write: “It seems Nervous Nancy Pelosi has deleted the video of herself in Chinatown on February 24 saying that fears of the coronavirus were ‘unwarranted in the light of the precautions that are being taken here in the United States.’ She doesn’t want Americans to see what she said then!”

Founder and President of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, posted a video of Pelosi in Chinatown and wrote: “It looks like Nancy Pelosi deleted this video of her in Chinatown on February 24th. Why could that be? It’s almost as if she doesn’t want the American people to see it. It would be a shame if this went viral so that EVERY American sees it.

During Wednesday’s White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing, President Donald Trump also weighed in on Pelosi’s visit to Chinatown in February, saying: “Nancy Pelosi was trying to have in San Francisco, parties in Chinatown. She thought it would be great. She wanted to show that this thing doesn’t exist.” Video Below
